This DIY lens cleaner provides a non-toxic way to remove fingerprints, dirt, and grime from all of your lenses and screens! Sadly, store-bought lens cleaners typically include harmful ingredients and preservatives known to cause chemical burns and allergic reactions. When it comes to cleaning eyeglasses, cell phone screens, and other items that will come into direct contact with the skin, you want to know that you are using a non-toxic cleaner. You can make your own with the recipe below, which uses only 3 ingredients and comes together in under 5 minutes!
Benefits of Making Your Own DIY Lens Cleaner
This DIY lens cleaner works beautifully to remove grime from your screens, lenses, and more. It’s non-toxic, budget-friendly, and extremely effective! It’s by far the best eyeglass cleaner spray that I’ve ever used.
The witch hazel has a high alcohol content, which makes it the perfect fast-drying liquid cleaner that removes fingerprints without leaving streaks behind.
The Castile soap is a mild cleaner and degreaser, for insuring that all of the buildup is removed from your lenses and screens. The recipe has just enough soap to do its job, but not so much that it leaves any residue behind. It’s the perfect complement to the witch hazel.
The distilled water helps to dilute the witch hazel to a lower concentration, so that the alcohol content is not too strong for some surfaces.
Supplies
- Funnel
- Glass Spray Bottle (If you’ve made my homemade bug spray recipe, then you likely already have a spare spray bottle!)
- Quality Lens Cloth
Ingredients
This will make 4oz. of lens cleaner.
- 6 tbsp. witch hazel
- 2 tbsp. distilled water
- 2 drops unscented Castile soap
Directions
- Add all three ingredients to the spray bottle, and swirl to combine.
- To use, simply spray onto a lens cloth to dampen, and then gently wipe the lenses or surfaces. For eyeglasses, you can spray directly onto the lenses before wiping.
- Swirl the bottle before each use.
Alcohol-Free DIY Lens Cleaner
As an alternative to the original lens cleaner recipe, you can use this recipe for surfaces that have a more delicate coating. This is an alcohol-free option.
- 8 tbsp. distilled water
- 2 drops unscented Castile soap
What To Use It On
If you have a surface that says not to use alcohol-based products, or if it says to only use water, then do not use this DIY lens cleaner on it, but rather try the alcohol-free option.
You can use either recipe to clean:
- Eyeglasses
- Cell phone screens
- Laptop and tablet screens
- Camera lenses
- and more!
