It’s amazing that something so healthy can taste so good! This chocolate milk will be your new daily craving, and it’s one you don’t have to feel guilty about. It’s full of protein, probiotics, vitamins, minerals, and of course, flavor! Keep reading to get the best, healthy, chocolate milk recipe you’ll ever try.
Benefits of Chocolate Milk
Because this chocolate milk is made with raw dairy milk, raw cacao instead of cocoa, and pure maple syrup instead of sugar, it is full of healthy benefits!
Raw dairy milk contains probiotics, protein, and important vitamins and minerals. It is a nutrient-rich superfood that supports many necessary functions in the body.
Raw cacao powder is unrefined, meaning it retains more of its mineral content that cocoa powder does. It’s a great source of copper!
Pure maple syrup is a sweetener that is all-natural and unrefined (unlike granulated sugar). And surprisingly enough, the maple syrup does not make the chocolate milk taste like maple. You cannot even tell that it contains maple, it only adds sweetness!
Supplies
- Storage Jar: I use a half gallon mason jar with airtight lids. I always have these on hand because I also use them for dry goods as seen in my homestead grain storage post.
- Measuring Cups and Spoons: I use these measuring cups and measuring spoons.
- Immersion Blender: I use the KitchenAid cordless immersion blender, but you can use any blender of choice.
Ingredients
- 5 cups milk: I use raw (unpasteurized) whole dairy milk, but you can use any milk of your choice.
- 2 tbsp. raw cacao powder: I use organic raw cacao powder.
- 1/3 cup pure maple syrup: I use organic pure maple syrup.
Directions
- Add all three ingredients to your storage jar.
- Use the immersion blender to blend everything together until smooth and incorporated.
- Store in the refrigerator. It will last as long as the milk stays fresh. Be sure to shake the jar before each pour, as it will separate when it sits.
Substitutions
- Substitute the raw milk for any milk of choice (pasteurized, skim, nut milk, etc).
- You can substitute cocoa powder instead of the cacao powder. Just be sure to adjust the measurements for taste as needed.
- Try honey instead of maple syrup for the sweetener. It does have a different flavor, but honey would add additional benefits!
Creative Ways to Drink Chocolate Milk
There are several creative ways that I have found to get this healthy chocolate milk into my daily rotation.
- Add two raw egg yolks to the recipe to richen the flavor and add extra protein! It makes it taste like melted chocolate ice cream. Trust me on this one, it’s amazing! As always, consume any raw foods at your own risk. This is not medical advice.
- Use the chocolate milk as a base for an iced mocha by adding espresso!
- Add vanilla extract and egg yolks, and put it into an ice cream maker to create soft-serve!
- Add vanilla ice cream, and blend into a milkshake.
- Warm it up so that it becomes hot chocolate! Topped with raw milk homemade whipped cream of course!
