When it comes to autumnal coffee drinks, a classic apple crisp macchiato is my go-to! For some reason, I’m not much of a pumpkin spice latte girl. I love my pumpkin treats, but not in my coffee! This recipe is the perfect way to use your apple scraps, by making a homemade apple brown sugar syrup, and then using it in your coffee!
There are multiple different methods for making this coffee, and you can use whichever method works for you!
Option 1: Using Espresso
Ingredients
- 4 tbsp. homemade apple brown sugar syrup (more or less to taste)
- 1 cup (8oz.) milk of choice
- 2oz espresso (double shot)
Directions (for hot or iced)
- Pour the apple brown sugar syrup into the bottom of your mug.
- Optionally warm the milk using an automatic milk frother, or simply warm it on the stovetop until it reaches the desired temperature. Pour frothed milk into mug with the syrup and stir.
- Pour the espresso into the mug, top with additional toppings if desired (such as the cinnamon whipped cream recipe below), and enjoy!
- For an iced apple crisp macchiato, chill the mixture above until cool, then pour over a full glass of ice.
Option 2: Using Coffee
Ingredients
- 4 tbsp. homemade apple brown sugar syrup (more or less to taste)
- 1 cup (8oz.) brewed coffee
- 2 tbsp. half and half (dairy or plant-based, more or less to taste)
Directions (for hot or iced)
- Pour the apple brown sugar syrup into the bottom of your mug.
- Brew your coffee into the mug, and stir together with the syrup.
- Stir in half and half, frothing beforehand if desired. Optionally top with additional toppings (such as the cinnamon whipped cream recipe below), and enjoy!
- For an iced apple crisp coffee, chill the mixture above until cool, then pour over a full glass of ice.
Cinnamon Whipped Cream (optional topping)
Ingredients
- 2 tbsp. heavy whipping cream
- 3/4 tbsp. pure maple syrup
- 1/8 tsp. ground cinnamon
Directions
- Combine all ingredients in a small bowl, and whip until stiff peaks form. Spoon over your apple crisp macchiato, and enjoy!
Substitutions
- For a caramel apple crisp macchiato, substitute half of the syrup in the recipe with store-bought or homemade maple caramel sauce.
- If you do not want to make homemade apple brown sugar syrup, you can mix equal parts of store-bought apple syrup with store-bought brown sugar cinnamon syrup.
